How to Help

Volunteering Go

Financial Support Go

L’Arche Winnipeg is helping to change the world one heart at a time!  We need your support! You can share in our mission and support people with developmental disabilities and their volunteer live-in assistants, who share life together in a spirit of respect and celebration in a number of ways: by volunteering, praying for the community and through your financial support.

Financial Support

Some ways you can support us financially:

  • A Direct Donation or Monthly Pledge  - Your contribution makes a real difference in community life at L’Arche Winnipeg. Your repeated gifts fund much-needed services and capital needs.
  • A Memorial or Celebration gift  - Your gift can honor someone special in your life – (just send us this form). Once received, a special acknowledgement card will be sent on your behalf.  Celebrate a loved one and at the same time the lives of L’Arche members.
  • Gifts In Kind - Thoughtful donors can make contributions of household items, office equipment and supplies, vehicles, real estate, shares or other items of value.  There are many opportunities and tax advantages for a donor to give during his/her lifetime, while continuing to enjoy the use of a donated home or other property.

  • Wills and Bequests -  One of the deepest expressions of love and commitment is a gift by bequest.  Your Will is your lasting testament – and a bequest to L’Arche Winnipeg testifies to your life’s meaning and values.

  • United Way of Winnipeg or Government Campaigns - You can direct a gift to L’Arche Winnipeg Inc. (citing our registered charitable number as #10759/7692/RR0001) through the United Way of Winnipeg Campaign, the provincial government’s All Charities Campaign, or the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign.

                Remember….Every Donation Counts!

To give by mail, send your contribution to:

     L’Arche Winnipeg Inc.

    118 Regent Avenue East

    Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2C 0C1

Gifts In Kind  - Benefits to you:

  • If the gift is outright, a gift receipt will be issued to you for the fair market value of your gift.

  • If you give a residual interest and retain the right to enjoy the property for the rest of your life, the gift receipt will be issued for the value of the residual interest, depending on your age and a number of other factors.

  • When appreciated capital assets are donated, you may realize a taxable capital gain. This can be offset by submitting the additional 25% of the taxable gain for a tax credit (or a tax deduction in the case of corporations).

  • For gifts of depreciated property, there is a fully offsetting tax credit in respect of the recapture.

While tax laws change, donations of these valuable resources usually generate considerable tax benefits for the donor. The Development Office will discuss the possibilities in confidence with you and/or your financial and legal advisors.

Wills and Bequests

Remembering L’Arche Winnipeg  in your will is a simple process.  A bequest can be incorporated into your will when you first create it or it can be added at a later date as an amendment or codicil.

Each bequest is unique and, therefore, no single clause will meet everyone's needs. We strongly recommend donors seek professional advice from their legal and financial advisors when considering this kind of gift. Your lawyer will craft the will clause language to meet your needs, and your financial advisor will be able to advise you as to the most tax effective way to make this gift (e.g. whether through cash, securities, life insurance, etc.). Here are some suggested clauses, as samples, for your consideration.

“I, (name), of (city, state, zip), give, devise and bequeath to L’Arche Winnipeg Inc, 118 Regent Avenue East, Winnipeg,  (written dollar amount, or percentage of the residue of your estate, or description of property) for its general use and purpose.”

While not necessary, it is beneficial to inform us if your estate plans will benefit L’Arche Winnipeg, both for our planning purposes and so that we may, with your permission, appropriately acknowledge your generosity.

We would be happy to talk with you about how a bequest or other planned gift to L’Arche Winnipeg might benefit you and the L’Arche community or if you’d like to receive a free copy of our Will Planning Guide, please contact  Mrs. Terry Wiebe, Fund Development Director at (204) 237-0300 ext 8 (cell: 770-6346) or email terrywiebe@larchewinnipeg.org .

Picture Yourself Volunteering

They've taught me to be more open.  Without batting

an eye, they accept you for who you are.

It's been a wonderful, wonderful experience.

-Marlene, special friend to members at the Ark

Marlene's words sum up what many L'Arche Winnipeg volunteers have expressed as they reflect on their experience of being with L'Arche.  New volunteers receive a warm welcome in our Community.  They offer us their unique skills and the gift of time and, in turn, are abundantly rewarded for their work in hugs, laughter and friendship.  Volunteers are essential to our life at L'Arche.  Won't you join us?

We invite you to look through our "want ads" and picture yourself volunteering with us...

The Special Friend

They are caring, patient, and friendly.  They equally enjoy a quiet evening playing games or a fun night on the town.  They like to try new things and enjoy spending time getting to know people over coffee.  They're an open person who’d be a great friend to a special L'Arche member.

The Sports Buddy (male)

He's the kind of guy you'd like to have as a brother - a warm heart and a great sense of humour.  He can often be seen working out at the local Y or playing almost any sport.  He takes a genuine interest in other people and is looking for a way to get more involved in the community while pursuing his love of physical activity.  Accompanying one or two L'Arche members from our Norwood Flats home to Tae Kwon Do, Special Olympics or to the gym would be right up his alley.

The Handy Person

Whenever your sink is backed up, your lawn mower won’t start or you need help re-painting your kitchen, they’re the friend you call. They seem to have a magic touch with anything broken, they sleep in their tool belt, and they’re always on the look out for potential home repair projects. They are putterers par excellence and only need somewhere to focus all that skill and energy.

Do you have a special skill or interest you would like to share with L'Arche?  We want to hear your ideas and may be able to create a volunteer role around your specific gifts.  Please contact the volunteer coordinator for more information.  Phone (204) 237-0300 ext. 20 or email us at volunteer@larchewinnipeg.org
